Neighborhood scale automatic garbage pickup

Self driving cars have some element of danger because they're going to have to drive at speed. Self driving garbage trucks would be able to creep around our neighborhoods pretty slowly and not pose much of a threat. If you made a big robot, that drove around and picked up people's garbage and brought it to a neighborhood central location, then trucks pick it up from there to bring it to the waste disposal facilities, it would save a lot of time and manpower collecting from each individual can.
