"What right does this guy have to comment on...?"

The Volcano Store is an experimental mechanism with the purpose of forcing me to keep writing. When I stumble upon an idea that I find interesting, I'll let it roll around in my head for a while, but often the only thing I have to show for it is some silent and unjustified self-congratulations about how that idea would've made a great backbone for an essay. Just like how it doesn't really matter how many brilliant scenes a painter thinks about painting, it only really matters what they put on canvas. This is my sketchbook of sorts, a place to actually write those ideas out. Why publish it as a website and not keep it as a private folder of documents? Well, that may change in the future, but I think that even if there isn't substantial viewership, the idea that I am putting my writing out in the world for other people to read is a commitment to quality. I also hope that there are people who will enjoy reading my opinions and thoughts.

I'm not claiming to be an expert in the subjects of my essays. I don't think you have to be an expert to have an opinion. You should consider the opinions of experts in higher regard than you consider my own opinion. I am making an effort to engage in public dialogue in a thoughtful and civil way. It takes a little longer to read an essay than it does to read a meme, but if you find value in more carefully chosen words in a richer context, then I hope you enjoy some of the works here.
